Thomas Hope a Gamekeeper at East Lodge, Kailzie House, unlike the other Hope families in Traquair Parish was only in Traquair Parish for a few years. He and his family appear in the 1841 Census for Traquair but are in Jedburgh for the 1851 census before emigrating to Australia in 1856.
