JOHN HOPE died 21.4.1894  the life long servant and faithful attendant of the last Earl of Traquair died at Hope Villa Innerleithen 21.4.1894 aged 78 here also sleeps his father and mother JOHN HOPE died 1857 aged 76 and CHRISTINE SCOTT died 20.2.1860 aged 65

At the foot of headstone - "And then they won... rest.   The lownest and the best in Traquair Kirkyard when 'awas done.

Agnes Walker his wife died 1845 and their children James born 1803 died 1809 Marion Hope born 1804 died 1859 Agnes born 1806 died 1829 Marjory born 1808 died 1928 James Professor of Natural History University of Aberdeen died 1879 buried in Grange cemetery Edinburgh.

Erected by John Melrose in memory of his wife Helen Hope who died at Innerleithen 2.2.1896 in her 71st year and also their daughter Elizabeth Melrose who died 2.5.1870 in her 21st year also their son John who died July 1884 in his 19th year.

Erected in memory of Thomas Hope only son of Thomas Hope joiner who died at Innerleithen 11.2.1879 aged 7 years and Margaret Vair his wife who died 13.12.1885 aged 48 years and the above Thomas Hope who died 21.12.1898 aged 68.

Erected in affectionate remembrance of CHRISTINA third daughter of ROBERT NICOL. died at Traquair 31.7.1863 aged 16 years and on the same day GEORGINA LEARMONT his youngest daughter aged 7 years and of JEANNIE his eldest daughter and wife of THOMAS HOPE died at Dalkeith 8.10.1870 aged 26 years and of JANET his second daughter and wife of ARCHIBALD NICOL died at Innerleithen 3.11.1911 aged 65 years (On the other side) also in affectionate remembrance of JESSIE LEARMONT beloved wife of ROBERT NICOL died at Innerleithen 28.11.1905 aged 80 years and of ARCHIBALD NICOL husband of JANET NICOL and nephew of the above ROBERT NICOL died at Innerleithen 25.12.1927 aged 82 years.
